St. Thomas Vacations
The Virgin Islands boasts the most popular cruise port in the Caribbean, and for good reason. Charlotte Amalie, which is also the capital of the United States Virgin Islands, is a gorgeous town. Cruise ships on St. Thomas vacations dock in the harbor and see the sign of St. Thomas for the first time: pastel colored houses speckled among the rolling green hills, sloops bobbing gently on the waterfront waves, and Danish building boasting a world famous shopping center.
While only 33 square miles in size, there is plenty to do on during St. Thomas all inclusive vacations. Tourists can rent a car--be warned, however, that custom from Danish rule dictates drivers remain on the left-hand side of the road--and drive up the winding roads to Drake's Sea, where Sir Francis Drake used to sit and watch over his ships in the harbor. If seeing the island by car isn't daring enough, a twin engine plan can be rented to take tourists up in the air for a bird's eye view of St. Thomas, St. John, and the British Virgin Islands. Or, charter a helicopter to drop you of a deserted island for a picnic or secluded beach time. St. Thomas all inclusive resorts will have details on the chartering process.
For those who enjoy walking, this island truly is ideal. Most of the island is uphill, so not only do tourists get to see the sights, they also get a great workout! One can't-miss site is the 99 Steps, which is one of the many staircases on the island dating back to the early 1700s. They were considered the easiest way to get up and down the steep hills. A word of caution: there are quite a few more than 99 steps, but climbers will be rewarded at the top, where Blackbeard's Castle is waiting to be explored.
One of the best parts of St. Thomas vacations are the beaches. Magen's Bay Beach has been proclaimed one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by National Geographic Magazine. Laying on a powdery white beach is a good time to sample the Virgin Islands famed rum. St. Thomas all inclusive vacation packages can provide visitors all the tropical drinks infused with the spicy local rum they desire!
Luxury hotels, shopping, fine dining, and plenty of sights to see make this small island a wonderful destination for even the most discerning traveler.
