Madrid Vacations
Madrid is the capital of Spain, located in the heart of the country and bustling with life and vibrancy. With incredible architecture, a booming nightlife, and plenty of culture and heritage to satisfy even the more avid history buffs, a Madrid vacation is sure to be filled with excitement and wonder.
The culture and art that is found in Madrid is mind boggling. European vacations in Madrid should always include a stop at the National Museum of the Prado, which is one of the most visited attractions here, as well as being home of the world's most revered Spanish painting collection. Works of art by Goya, El Greco, and Velazquez are found here, as well as those by other masters such as Rafael and Boticelli. Other important artistic sites, such as the Teatro Real opera house, home to singers and plays from around the world, and the Spanish National Library, which is filled to the brim with manuscripts and histories of this amazing country.
It's quite possible that only France can rival Spain with it's reputation for incredible food. Madrid vacations allow tourists to experience everything from traditional dishes to innovative gourmet cuisine. Tapas, which are smaller portions of food (almost like appetizers), are famous throughout the wine bars and restaurants of Madrid. Get together with friends and order a few plates to sample the culinary art of the city. Typical dishes, such as cocido, besugo, barquillos, and huesos de santo are waiting to be discovered. For those looking for no expenses spared fine dining, explore some of the Michelin starred restaurants, such as La Terraza del Casino, Santceloni, and El Club Allard.
Sports are a big part of the Spanish way of life, but none so much as soccer (futbol). The local team is Real Madrid, and if there is any chance to experience a game during your visit, there is no way you should miss the opportunity. Soccer is more than just a game or sport, it is practically a religion here. If the team isn't playing, the stadium gives daily tours to fans, where the history of the club is given and visitors can walk around the playing field (not on it, unfortunately) and see where so the triumph of winning or the agony of defeat has played out so many times.
The nightlife in Madrid has the reputation of being incredible. Most people don't eat dinner until later in the evening, and by 11:00 or so, the night isn't winding to a close--far from it. Going out at night is a national past time, and there is always something to do. Once the weather gets nice, there are terraces everywhere, where people sit with friends and drink wine. Tapas are enjoyed at local restaurants, and people dance the night away at ultra trendy clubs. Flamenco performances are held in many bars, as well as live music.
Vacations in Madrid hold a promise of an incredible experience and plenty of stories to tell back home. Why wait?
