Holland Vacations
It's quite easy to be confused with what exactly to call the Netherlands. Commonly referred to as "Holland" by English speakers, some people don't realize that Holland is the Netherlands (actually, they are provinces: North Holland and South Holland). No matter what name it goes by, vacations in Holland are sure to please.
Most Holland all inclusive vacation packages include a trip to the ultimate symbol of the Dutch country: windmills. Historically used for grinding grain, sawing timber, and controlling the water level, the advent of modern machinery caused the over 10,000 operational mills to shrink dramatically in number. However, there are still over 1,100 mills still standing throughout the country. The mills at Kinderdijk are on UNESCO's World Heritage List, and the Zaanse Schans mills are located on the world's first industrial site. The mills at Schiedam were used in the Dutch gin industry, and the Flour Mill De Leeuw is an open mill that demonstrates contruction and the inner workings of mills.
Another symbol of Holland vacations are the nation's tulips. Keukenhof is Holland's most famous garden, and the world's biggest flower exposition. The Bollenstreek Flower Parade is not to be missed, as it is the biggest parade held annually in Holland. And for serious flower enthusiasts, the Flower Auction Aalsmeer is not to be missed! Late March, April, and early May are the best times to go and see the flower in bloom.
The museums one is able to see on Holland all inclusive vacations are astounding. The Vermeer Center Delft showcases the life of the famous painter. The Kröller Müller Museum contains paintings by Van Gogh, Picasso, and Renoir, and the 27 acre garden is filled with sculptures set among woodlands and landscaped gardens. Many people picnic here. The famous Madame Tussauds has 130 lifelike wax figures on display. Only here can you say that you hung out with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Marilyn Monroe, and Oprah Winfrey while on your trip to the Netherlands. The Anne Frank House is a moving experience for millions of visitors, where they can glimpse part of the original version of the diary as well as the hiding place in which she hid from the Nazis.
From campsites to guesthouses, Holland all inclusive resorts to bed and breakfasts, accommodation is quite easy to find for any European vacation in the Netherlands. Apartments, hotels, and hostels mean that there is never an excuse for not finding a place to stay in Holland--and then setting out to explore it!
