Cartagena Vacations

The metropolitan city of Cartagena is situated on the northern coast of Colombia, and is the center of economic activity in the Caribbean and a popular tourist destination. The fortress and colonial walled city have been named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so there is plenty of history to be found during vacations in Cartagena.

The climate of Cartagena is warm and humid, with temperatures remaining between 75 and 90 degrees year round, with plenty of humidity. The rainy season is usually in April and May, as well as October and November. However, don't be put off by the high temperatures. There are always cooling winds blowing throughout the island, so what seems like an uncomfortable heat is often bearable.

Cartagena all inclusive vacation packages in the downtown area showcase the history and architecture of this lovely city. Mainly done in a colonial style, there are also influence of Italy found here. Simon Bolivar has a famous sculpture that is often visited in the Plaza de Bolivar, and the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas  is an old castle with impressive walls and heavy cannons still guarding it. Other sites to make sure to explore include the Islas del Rosario, steps of La Popa mount, El Cartagena Gold Museum, Playa Blanca (located on the island of Baru), and the Palace of the Inquisition.

Since Cartagena is nearly surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, Cartagena all inclusive resorts on the beaches aren't hard to find. Quiet, relaxing beaches surrounded by turquoise water are the norm in this part of the country. The sands of the beaches here are brown, since there are no coral reefs off the shores, which means no shells and coral remnants to contribute "white sand".  Those looking for white sand beaches should travel south to Playa Blanca, which is more isolated and remote. The Beaches of the Rosario Islands are accessible by boat, which offers beautiful hotels, restaurants, and a world class aquarium. Cartagena vacations really do offer a wide variety of beaches to choose from.
